An owl is a funny bird.
That applies to Slavic languages, as there the name of our association is heard as this bird. Though in French, the same sounds can serve as both a question and an answer, depending on the context. Is everything okay? Everything is fine. Everything will be fine! In French, it's *ça va*, *ça va*, and *ça va aller*. Our colleagues find that naming a bit odd, but we find it pretty funny! We believe work should be fun and, whenever possible, positive. Otherwise, nothing will work out.
Our team is made of refugees and migrants. We help because we have been through this ourselves. With a team entirely composed of refugees, we have a huge workload and very little time, yet we give it our all. We do not want LGBTQIA+ people from the EECCA region to face such situations alone. But what exactly is EECCA, and why not just Russia and Ukraine?
After all, Russia is far from the only country that uses attacks on LGBTQIA+ rights as a crutch to divert attention from its own problems. Russian “propaganda” laws have provided a great deal of queerphobic inspiration worldwide, and this impact is felt most acutely in neighboring countries. Drawing on our own personal experience, we are well-positioned to offer guidance, and we refuse to turn people away simply because they are not from Russia or Ukraine. After all, EECCA stands for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.
